The Kenya ladies’ national netball team, popularly known as the Kenya Divas, arrived in Harare this week to take part in the 2025 Commonwealth Games African Qualifiers. The competition, which features top regional teams including the Zambezi Eagles of Zambia and the hosts, the Zimbabwe Gems, is taking place from 26–30 August 2025 at Queen Elizabeth High School in Harare. Each match is a crucial step toward securing a place at the next Commonwealth Games, making the tournament a high-stakes showcase of the very best of East and Southern Africa’s women’s netball.

A Victorious Start Against Zambezi Eagles

The Divas opened their campaign on Wednesday, 27 August, against the Zambezi Eagles in what proved to be a thrilling and closely contested match. Kenya displayed impressive teamwork, resilience, and sharp shooting to edge out the Eagles with a 50–45 victory.

This win set the tone for their campaign, giving the young Kenyan side confidence and valuable international exposure.

Zimbabwe Gems Prove Too Strong

Day two saw the Divas take on host nation Zimbabwe Gems in front of a vibrant home crowd. The Gems demonstrated why they are among Africa’s strongest netball teams, dominating with speed, passing precision, and clinical finishing. They secured a 54–28 win over Kenya, leaving the Divas with valuable lessons for the road ahead.
